2nd Grade Curriculum
Marking Period 1:
• Perform the locomotor skills of galloping, sliding, and skipping while moving along straight, curved, and zigzag pathways.
• Move right, left, clockwise, and counterclockwise, in response to a signal.
• Explain why the heart beats faster, the lungs breathe deeper, and the skin sweats during and immediately after exercise.
Marking Period 2:
• Move in relationship to a partner, for example, meeting/parting, leading/following, and mirroring/matching.
• Throw overhand to a stationary target.
• Catch an overhand thrown ball.
Marking Period 3:
• Jump over a self-turned jump rope.
• Transfer weight onto, over, and off of equipment by beginning with the hands on the equipment, kicking the feet above the base of support, and landing softly on two feet.
• Explain that exercising and making healthy choices (e.g., eating fruits and vegetables) are ways to make the heart healthier.
Marking Period 4:
• Dribble a ball with the feet.
• Continuously strike a balloon or lightweight ball using an underhand striking motion with a lightweight paddle/racket.
• Define persistence and explain how it relates to improvement.
