1st Grade Curriculum
Marking Period 1:
• Perform the locomotor skills of hopping, jumping, galloping, sliding, and skipping.
• Move forward, backward, and sideways at high, middle, and low levels.
• Identify that the heart beats faster, the lungs breathe deeper, and the skin sweats during and immediately after exercise.
Marking Period 2:
• Create shapes with the body such as, wide, narrow, round, twisted, symmetrical, and not symmetrical.
• Throw underhand to a stationary target.
• Catch an underhand thrown ball.
Marking Period 3:
• Jump and land for height and distance using a two-foot takeoff, and landing softly on two feet.
• Perform a variety of sideways rolls.
• Explain that exercise helps to maintain or improve heart health and makes muscles grow stronger.
Marking Period 4:
• Kick a slowly rolling ball using the instep.
• Continuously strike a balloon or lightweight ball using an underhand motion while remaining in self-space.
• Define a movement goal and explain how to assess a goal.
